Jane's Lasagna
This is Jane Lange's recipe. She's had many businesses in her lifetime, so she knows how to use shortcuts to get good food on the table. This lasagna uses jarred marinara sauce and it's very good! Mrs. Jane operates Total Live-In Care service for those that need a little extra help. (225) 791-5307.
2 tbs olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1 lb italian sausage, taken out of the casing
4 bay leaves
2 tbs italian seasoning
1 tbs basil (the prepared kind in the tube)
3 tbs garlic (minced or from the tube)
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp sugar
1 cup chopped parsley
4 jars marinara sauce (your favorite commercial brand - Jane uses Newman's Own)
8 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
8 lasagna noodles
2 cups water
In a dutch oven, heat oil to medium. When pan is ready, place all the meat in it and stir, breaking up the raw sausage. Add all the spices and stir. When the meat is cooked through, you can skim off any excess oil, then add in all the jars of sauce. Use the 2 cups of water to get all the sauce out of the jars. Allow to cook for 30 minutes, stirring often.
To prepare the lasagna, prepare in boiling water as directed on the package. Once the noodles are cooked, begin your layers in a lasagna pan.
Put a little meat sauce on the bottom, half the noodles, a little more sauce, cheese, noodles, sauce, cheese, until you get to the top of the pan with a layer of cheese on top.
Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
